Different countries and leagues have significantly different rules regarding import players and it is impossible to fit all of the specifics of these rules into this article. That said, if you have ties to a different country, it is strongly recommended that you look into getting dual citizenship as this will most likely significantly improve your marketability as a player. Ultimately, athletes that do not count toward a team’s quota for import players will have more roster openings available to them and will face less competition when trying to get a contract.
