Timeline to Signing

The timeline to signing with both an agent and a team varies significantly depending on your specific situation and the league that you’re looking to play in. Below are some of the key points to remember regarding your timeline.

Rookies Signing with Agents

As a rookie, agents will typically begin contacting you in the first couple months following the completion of your season. However, agents and teams may still reach out at any point following the completion of your season so a lack of interest in the first few months does not mean your basketball career is over. Regardless of what happens, Agent-Link helps you be more proactive and take your recruitment into your own hands by contacting agents and teams.

Pro’s Signing with Agents

As someone with pro experience, if you are not signed with an agent, you can be contacted at any time and will likely have agents reaching out to you during your season, if you are playing well.

Signing with Teams

The timeline to signing with a team is heavily dependent on what league you are looking at. The basketball season typically starts in the fall (September-November) for teams in the northern hemisphere and in the spring (March-May) for teams in the Oceania and South America regions. Season duration and end date varies significantly based on the league so check out the Agent-Link Community (coming soon!) to ask about the specific end dates of certain leagues. The majority of signing takes place outside of the season and 1-2 months prior to the start of a season. However, signing with a team can realistically occur at any time.

There is also a transfer window around the mid-way mark of each season where injured or underperforming players are sent home and new players are brought in. This is another opportunity for unsigned players to get contracts, so stay ready! Agent-Link will help you find these opportunities.
